AIM performed the demolition/gut of all architectural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection components from a 23 story, 350,000 square foot building as part of the conversation of the building from a commercial office space into high-rise apartments. AIM constructed two temporary trash chutes (one 21 floors tall and one 11 floors tall) to facilitate debris removal. The work also involved the demolition of four 23-story elevator systems including the elevator equipment, cabs, cables, rails, doors, and counterweights. AIM also demolished the concrete roof and 20″ thick reinforced concrete beams above the elevator shafts to facilitate a new penthouse with elevator access. The mechanical demo involved the removal of several large boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, and other large mechanical components from the mechanical spaces on the 22nd and 23rd floors. The work was completed in less than 1 year.
