Safety at AIM Services
The health and safety of AIM employees, other trades working around us, and the public is of paramount importance. Safety is not just a philosophy at AIM services but a way of doing business and is the responsibility of all employees at every level of our work operations. We proscribe to the common safety creed that “No job is so important and no service is so urgent that we cannot take time to perform our work safely.”
AIM recognizes that its people are its most important asset. We expect work to be completed in a manner that ensures the health and safety of our employees are protected. We are proud of our zero incident record for the past several years illustrated by our Workers’ Compensation EMR rating of 0.76.
AIM is a recipient of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Safety Training and Evaluating Process (STEP) safety award. AIM also receives regular safety and program audits as part of its membership in the Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA). These association audits and evaluations are performed by safety professionals and review every aspect of the AIM health and safety program.
AIM is a drug-free workplace.
AIM conducts initial and random drug screening of all employees.
Our Safety Program
AIM maintains a comprehensive health and safety program which outlines the policies and procedures for conducting our work in a safe and professional manner. The program assigns responsibilities and provides accountability to managers, supervisors, and workers. The fifty-five current topics covered by the AIM health and safety plan cover topics from personal protective equipment to accident investigations.
Employee training is a key aspect of a safe workplace. Every AIM employee is trained at the start of his employment in the AIM health and safety program. Annual refresher training on these subjects is conducted at every monthly supervisor meeting and at each quarterly all-employee meeting. In addition, AIM employees regularly receive the following third-party safety training and instruction: First Aid and CPR training for all supervisors, annual EPA AHERA worker training for asbestos workers and supervisors, annual lead worker training, annual VSRA maritime safety training, confined space training, fall protection training, scaffold competent person training, OSHA 10 hour safety training, OSHA 30 hour safety training, annual OSHA hazardous waste operations (HAZWOPER) training, environmental compliance assessment training and tracking (ECATTS), rigging training, and Army Corps of Engineers contractor quality control training.
